Jean Luc  Mari

Jean-Luc Mari is a graduate of the Institut Physique du Globe Strasbourg and the IFP School (MSc in Petroleum Geosciences, major in geo-physics in 1978) and was hired by IFP in 1979. He worked on several research projects as a Research Engineer in the Geophysics department. In 1984, he was awarded a PhD in Astronomy and Celestial Mechanics by the Université Pierre et Marie Curie. In 1994, he was appointed to the IFP School as a Professor, and he defended a thesis at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in order to receive accreditation to supervise research on Earth Sciences. At present, he is a Geophysics Professor at the IFP School and an IFPEN expert. He supervises the MSc research program in “Lithosphere, Basins, Petroleum”, which is part of the Master’s program in Science and Technology (Paris VI). He is a member of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE). He is an author and a co-author of patents (in the field of acoustic well logging), numerous scientific articles, and books on geophysical methods and signal processing. He has been involved in the design and development of specific teaching aids (on-line (http://www-ig.unil.ch/cours) and CD-ROMs). His main fields of expertise are seismic acquisition and processing, geophysics of reservoirs, and civil engineering.
