Aims and scope

Near Surface Geophysics is an international journal for the publication of research and development in geophysics applied to near surface. It places emphasis on geological, hydrogeological, geotechnical, environmental, engineering, mining, archaeological, agricultural and other applications of geophysics as well as physical soil and rock properties. Geophysical and geoscientific case histories with innovative use of geophysical techniques are welcome, which may include improvements on instrumentation, measurements, data acquisition and processing, modelling, inversion, interpretation, project management and multidisciplinary use. The papers should also be understandable to those who use geophysical data but are not necessarily geophysicists.

Impact Factor 2017: 1.186

Near Surface Geophysics is indexed/abstracted in the Current Contents/ Physical, Chemical & Earth Sciences , ISI Alerting Service and Science Citation Index Expanded .

Near Surface Geophysics is published 6 times a year.

Call For papers on Quantitative Geophysical Characterisation of Marine Near-Surface

Near Surface Geophysics is soliciting manuscripts for a Special Issue focused on the Quantitative

Geophysical Characterisation of the Marine Near-Surface. The Special Issue will highlight the recent advances in the application of quantitative geophysical methods (both seismic and non-seismic) to marine shallow subsurface problems. We seek papers that cover the development of new and/or novel acquisition techniques, inversion methods, rock physical and/or constitutive models that link geophysical observations with geological/geotechnical properties, and novel case studies that demonstrate the application of quantitative marine geophysical methods to the shallow subsurface. In particular, we encourage multi-disciplinary papers that look beyond the geophysical problem and attempt to effectively integrate geophysical, geological, and geotechnical parameterisations of the sediments.

Authors should first register their interest and prospective abstract with the Special Issue Guest Editors by sending email to one of them (see email addresses below). The submission deadline for the short abstract (one A4 page size) for consideration for this Special Issue is 28 February, 2019. After review of the abstracts the Guest Editors will invite authors to make the final submission of full manuscripts via Near Surface Geophysics’ online submission system (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/nsg). Please indicate that the manuscript is intended for the Quantitative Characterisation Special Issue in the online submission system when making the final submission. Manuscripts that are submitted to this Special Issue will undergo the standard Near Surface Geophysics review process; authors may also be asked to contribute to the review process of other articles in the Special Issue.

Call for papers on Recent Developments in Induced Polarization

Following the 5th International Workshop on Induced Polarization(October 2018, Newark-NJ, USA), Near Surface Geophysics is soliciting manuscripts for a Special Issue focused on Recent Developments in Induced Polarization. The Special Issue will highlight the recent advances in the IP method. We seek papers that cover developments in IP modelling, petrophysical studies to understand the IP response of subsurface materials, new forward modelling and inversion approaches, advancements in the use of IP measurements for biogeophysical studies, and novel case studies involving IP data.

Authors should first register their interest and prospective abstract with the Special Issue Guest Editors by sending email to one of them (see email addresses below). The submission deadline for the short abstract (one A4 page size) for consideration for this Special Issue is Dec 7, 2018.  Participants in the 5th International Workshop on Induced Polarization are encouraged to submit original articles for this Special Issue. Also, researchers with interesting and relevant research results who did not participate in this Workshop are invited to contribute articles to the Special Issue.

After review of the abstracts, the Guest Editors will invite authors to make the final submission of full manuscripts via Near Surface Geophysics’ online submission system (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/nsg). If invited to submit a full manuscript, please indicate that the manuscript is intended for the IP Special Issue in the cover letter accompanying the final submission.  Manuscripts that are submitted to this Special Issue will undergo the standard Near Surface Geophysics review process; authors may also be asked to contribute to the review process.
